Business Central's manufacturing features are available only with the Premium experience1, which Microsoft lists at $110 per user a month, paid yearly2.
Best for: Manufacturers already on Microsoft 365 that want production, inventory and finance in one ERP at a published per-user price.
Not the right fit for: Plants that need advanced finite scheduling or a built-in MES out of the box.
What it covers
Production BOMs define components, routings define operations, and work and machine centres model capacity and cost. Production orders coordinate material consumption, operation time, output and finished goods, and connect to supply planning, inventory, warehouse management, costing, subcontracting and quality management1. Consumption, output, scrap and time are recorded in production journals or posted automatically through flushing methods, and the cost of finished production is calculated for financial reconciliation.
The Sales Order Agent in a plant
The agent reads customer emails and attachments, finds the customer and items, checks availability and prepares a quote, which can be converted to an order3. With capable-to-promise switched on, it calculates the earliest realistic delivery date for items that must be produced or procured, using lead times and capacity. Designated users approve every outgoing message, and use is billed in Copilot Credits.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- Published prices: Essentials $80 and Premium $110 per user a month, paid yearly; manufacturing needs Premium.
- The Sales Order Agent can promise delivery dates for items not in stock, using production capacity and lead times.
- Production costs flow into the ledger for financial reconciliation within the same system.
Limits
- Manufacturing is only available on the Premium experience.
- Agent use is billed separately in Copilot Credits, and the agent pauses when credits run out.
- Shop-floor reporting is through journals and flushing methods rather than a dedicated MES.
Choose another option if: You need finite scheduling and an operator kiosk out of the box (Acumatica), or a job-shop system built around quoting (JobBOSS², Global Shop Solutions).
Pricing
Published: Essentials $80, Premium $110, Team Members $8 per user a month, paid yearly.
